Securing Wood Floors
Securing a wood floor can be accomplished
by three methods. Each method offers a different overall
look. There are three types of hardwood flooring: strip,
plank and square. The type of flooring you are working with
will often determine the way in which you should secure
it.
Regardless of which method you use, know
that is it extremely important that your wood floors be
secured properly, with closed gaps, to ensure that it remains
beautiful and long lasting. Consider the way in which you
will use your wood floors and the overall look you are going
for.
Three Securing Options:

Face Nailing - Leaves
fasteners visible. Least common method. Requires you
to use a smooth faced hammer to align nails and evenly
place them. A variety of nails can be used. Gives an
overall rustic appeal.

Screwed and Plugged
- Hides fasteners. Commonly used for larger width flooring.
Method is time consuming.

Blind Nailing - Hides
fasteners. Most common method used on hardwood floors.
Nails are hidden in the tongue and grove joint.
